Founder of Crypto Startup, Bill Lou, Falls Victim to $125,000 Airdrop Scam

Nest Wallet co-founder Bill Lou faced a setback, losing $125,000 to scammers while pursuing a cryptocurrency airdrop. Expressing dismay, he admitted falling victim to a trick he aimed to protect others from.

Despite his vigilance, Lou followed a link in an article guide, signing a message without skepticism.After launching an investigation, Lou discovered the hacker scammed a total of 66 ETH, including 14 ETH (~$31k) from others.

Collaborating with @HackersResidue, he uncovered connections to specific exchanges and traced transfers dating back six years, indicating a coordinated effort.In 2022, a report by Immunefi disclosed global cryptocurrency losses of $3.9 billion to hackers and fraudsters, a decline from 2021’s $8.08 billion.

The breakdown revealed $3.7 billion lost to hacks and $174.9 million to fraud. Notably, the majority of fraud losses were associated with Ronin Network, BNB Chain, Wormhole, and FTX. Despite the decrease, cybersecurity remains a critical concern in the crypto space.
