Google has introduced new updates to its AI Mode in Chrome, allowing users to view web pages alongside its conversational AI search interface.
The company announced that when users click a link while using AI Mode on Chrome desktop, the webpage will now open side-by-side with the AI panel, enabling simultaneous browsing and interaction.
Google said the feature is designed to help users compare information, ask follow-up questions and explore content without switching between tabs.
For example, users researching products can view a retailer’s website while asking AI Mode specific questions about product features, usability or comparisons, with responses informed by the page content and wider web context.
The company also introduced a new tab integration feature that allows users to include multiple open tabs directly in AI Mode searches. By selecting tabs through a new “plus” menu, users can combine content from different sources, such as documents, images or webpages into a single query.
Google said the update is particularly useful for tasks such as academic revision, research and product comparisons, where context from multiple sources is needed at once.
The new features are currently rolling out to users in the United States in English, with expansion to other regions expected later.
