Google has begun rolling out a new generation of artificial intelligence-powered Search agents capable of monitoring information on behalf of users and automatically delivering updates when relevant developments occur.

The feature, known as Information Agents, was first unveiled during Google I/O 2026 and is now becoming available to subscribers of the company’s Google AI Ultra service through AI Mode.

Unlike traditional search tools that require users to repeatedly check for updates, Information Agents continuously monitor the internet in the background and notify users when new information matching their interests becomes available.

According to Google, the agents can track content across news websites, blogs, social media platforms, financial data sources, shopping sites, and sports updates.

Users can activate the feature through prompts such as “keep me updated on” or “alert me when” within AI Mode. Once enabled, the system continuously scans the web and delivers summarised updates whenever relevant developments are detected.

Google said the technology uses advanced reasoning capabilities to determine which information is relevant and when notifications should be sent, allowing for more contextual and timely updates than traditional alert systems.

The company demonstrated several use cases for the feature, including monitoring rental property listings that meet specific criteria and tracking product announcements from athletes, brands, or companies.

For example, users searching for an apartment can receive notifications whenever a new property matching their requirements becomes available online. Similarly, sneaker enthusiasts can be alerted when athletes announce new signature shoe collaborations.

The rollout reflects Google’s broader effort to transform Search from a tool that simply responds to queries into one that actively performs tasks on behalf of users.

Rather than repeatedly searching for updates on a topic, users can delegate the task to an AI agent that continuously monitors the web and reports back when necessary.

For now, Information Agents are available exclusively to Google AI Ultra subscribers, whose premium plans range from $99.99 to $199.99 per month depending on the subscription tier.

The feature is available across all languages and markets currently supported by AI Mode and forms part of Google’s wider push toward agentic AI systems capable of carrying out tasks independently.

Industry observers view the launch as another step toward a future in which AI assistants become increasingly proactive, potentially reshaping how people interact with search engines and access information online.
