Google has reportedly carried out another round of job cuts within its cloud computing division as the technology giant continues to redirect resources toward artificial intelligence initiatives.
According to reports, the layoffs have affected employees within Google Cloud’s cybersecurity operations, including teams from the Threat Intelligence Group and Mandiant.
While Google has not disclosed the number of employees impacted, the company said it regularly reviews its organisational structure to align with evolving customer and industry demands.
A company spokesperson said the changes were intended to support investments in strategic growth areas, particularly artificial intelligence.
The move reflects a broader trend across the technology sector, where companies are cutting costs and restructuring operations to fund growing AI investments.
The layoffs come amid a difficult year for technology workers. Industry tracking platform Layoffs.fyi estimates that more than 116,000 jobs have been eliminated across 164 companies so far this year.
Recent workforce reductions have also been reported at companies including Uber, GitLab, Oracle, Amazon, Dell Technologies, and Meta.
Analysts say many technology firms are increasingly prioritising AI infrastructure, automation, and operational efficiency as they adapt to changing market conditions.
