Meta Platforms has introduced a new feature called Incognito Chat aimed at enabling private conversations with its AI chatbot across WhatsApp and the Meta AI app.

The company said the feature is built on its Private Processing technology and is designed to prevent even Meta itself from accessing user conversations with the chatbot.

According to Meta, Incognito Chat creates temporary and private AI conversations where prompts and responses are not stored and disappear automatically.

The feature will begin rolling out over the coming months on WhatsApp and the Meta AI application.

Meta said the feature is intended for users discussing sensitive topics or sharing personal, financial or health-related information with AI systems.

The company explained that its Private Processing technology uses Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) to ensure conversations remain inaccessible to Meta and third parties.

“The goal of Private Processing is to raise the bar for privacy and security for use cases where end-to-end encryption is not possible,” the company stated in a white paper.

The launch comes amid increasing concerns globally over the privacy risks and psychological effects associated with AI chatbots, as well as ongoing debates around data security in AI systems.

Meta also disclosed plans to launch another AI feature called “Side Chat,” which will allow users to access AI assistance within ongoing chats without disrupting conversations.
