Meta’s “Threads App” Poses Fresh Rivalry Against Twitter
TECHDIGEST- In a bid to intensify the rivalry between Meta and Twitter, Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has announced the upcoming launch of their app called Threads, available for pre-order on the Apple App Store. The app, linked to Instagram, is described as a “text-based conversation app” and will offer a dashboard resembling Twitter’s layout. The move is the latest in a back-and-forth competition between Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter’s Elon Musk, with recent incidents including a proposed physical fight between the two billionaires.
While Threads is set to be a free service without restrictions on post views, Twitter’s popular user dashboard, TweetDeck, is expected to go behind a paywall to boost sign-ups for their subscription service, Twitter Blue.

The Threads app aims to create communities for discussions on various topics, providing a layout similar to Twitter’s, according to images captured from the app. Unlike Twitter’s recent restriction on tweet views due to “data scraping,” Threads does not appear to have any such limitations, potentially making it an appealing alternative for users. However, Twitter’s subscription service push, led by Elon Musk, seeks to attract more users to Twitter Blue, potentially challenging Threads’ appeal.
As Meta, with its vast resources and connection to millions of Instagram accounts, gears up for the launch of Threads, Twitter faces perhaps its biggest threat yet.
