NCC-CSIRT Warns of Cybercriminals Using AI-Generated YouTube Videos to Distribute Malware
TECHDIGEST– The Nigerian Communications Commission’s Computer Security Incident Response Team (NCC-CSIRT) has issued a warning to individuals and organizations about cybercriminal gangs that are distributing malware through AI-generated YouTube videos.
The advisory stated that those looking to acquire pirated software and resources risk becoming victims of such gangs. The consequences of falling prey to such cybercriminals can be critical and result in financial loss, data theft, identity theft, reputation damage, and system damage.

The AI-generated tutorial videos entice unsuspecting victims into clicking on links in the video descriptions that result in the download of malware, such as Raccoon, Vidar, and RedLine.
Cybercriminals can create AI-generated videos with hidden or disguised malware, appearing harmless or even entertaining to viewers. These videos can also be used to distribute phishing scams and ransomware.
To avoid falling victim to these cyber threats, the advisory recommends avoiding pirated software, installing and keeping antivirus software up to date, installing a comprehensive endpoint detection and response (EDR) solution, and thinking before clicking any link. The NCC-CSIRT advisory highlights the importance of taking proactive measures to protect against evolving cyber threats.
