Abubakar highlighted the significance of issuing a unique National Identity Number, paralleling it with systems like the Social Security Number in the United States and the National Insurance Number in the United Kingdom. He stressed that these numbers were pivotal for identification purposes.
Acknowledging their accomplishments, Abubakar stated, “We have enrolled over one hundred million Nigerians and issued them with the NIN. We are in Yola to re-strategize to achieve more.” He pointed out that while around 90 percent of adults had been enrolled, only about 10 percent of children had been included. Thus, NIMC’s current efforts were directed toward enrolling children, women, and those in remote and challenging regions.
Abubakar also extended an invitation to the Lamido for the 2023 World Identity Day event, scheduled for September 16, 2023.
The NIMC delegation, led by Abubakar, included key personnel such as Musa Odole Solomon, the Project Coordinator for Nigeria Digital Identification for Development Project, along with Directors and top management staff of NIMC and Nigeria Digital ID4D Project.
The Lamido’s team comprised individuals like Alhaji Mustafa Aminu – Galadima Adamawa, Justice Nathan Musa – Wakilin Alkalai Adamawa (Retired Chief Judge), Alhaji Ahamdu Bobboi – Chief Imam, Modibbo Adama Central Mosque, Alhaji Kabiru Bakari – Tariya Adamawa, Secretary, Adamawa Emirate Council, and Prof. Abubakar Abba Tahir, Kakaki Adamawa.
The visit to the Lamido’s Palace was a significant part of the NIMC/Nigeria Digital ID4D Management Workshop, hosted in Jimeta-Yola, Adamawa State. This event was supported by the Nigeria Digital Identification for Development (ID4D) Project.
In a separate statement, Musa Odole Solomon, the Project Coordinator for Nigeria Digital ID4D Project, emphasized that the workshop provided an invaluable platform for addressing challenges faced by the Commission. The event encompassed paper presentations, review of implementation plans, interactive sessions, visitations, and discussions on the next steps.
