The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) will commence ward-level enrollment for the National Identification Number (NIN) nationwide on February 16, 2026.
The Commission disclosed this in a statement signed by its Head of Communications, Kayode Adegoke, stating that the move follows a presidential directive to expand NIN registration to the grassroots.
According to NIMC, the exercise will be conducted free of charge and is aimed at registering all Nigerian citizens and legal residents, including children and adults, into the National Identity Database.
The Commission said the initiative is part of efforts to deepen identity inclusion, decentralise services and improve access to public services by reducing travel burdens for citizens.
NIMC disclosed that consultations and sensitisation campaigns have begun at national, state and local government levels. State governments, local authorities, traditional rulers, market associations and faith-based organisations are being engaged to support mobilisation efforts.
The Commission urged Nigerians yet to enroll to take advantage of the exercise and ensure that all eligible family members are registered.
