NITDA, IMPR, CCC Win Global PR Awards in Athens
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in collaboration with Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR) and the Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), has won two prestigious Golden World Awards at the 2026 International Public Relations Association (IPRA) Golden World Awards (GWA) in Athens, Greece.
The Nigerian team was recognised in the Artificial Intelligence in Crisis Management and Publication categories for its innovative work on the use of artificial intelligence and strategic communication in strengthening crisis management.
The awards recognise the establishment of the Crisis Communication Hub (CCHub), a national framework developed from an empirical research study on artificial intelligence and crisis management, supported by NITDA.
The initiative is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to anticipate, detect and respond to emerging communication crises in an increasingly digital environment.
A key component of the framework is the deployment of AI tools for smart governance, crisis communication and proactive social listening. It also seeks to combat misinformation by improving the detection of fake news, deepfakes and other digital threats capable of undermining public trust.
Beyond technology, the Crisis Communication Hub provides a platform for coordinated action among relevant stakeholders, enabling faster and more strategic responses to communication emergencies across the country.
The awards were formally received during the high-level global ceremony at the iconic Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens, with Hajiya Hadiza Umar representing NITDA and Professor Yau Sule representing IMPR.
The recognition places Nigeria’s emerging approach to AI-enabled crisis communication on an international platform while highlighting the role of collaboration among government, communication professionals and crisis-management experts.
The achievement also underscores NITDA’s broader efforts to promote digital literacy, responsible and ethical adoption of artificial intelligence, and innovative approaches to communication in Nigeria.
The 2026 Golden World Awards recognition further demonstrates how locally developed research, technology and strategic communication frameworks can contribute to addressing the complex challenges posed by misinformation and digital disruption in the modern information ecosystem.
