The feature arrives as part of Bluesky’s broader strategy to strengthen community engagement and differentiate itself from larger competitors such as X and Meta.

Available in the latest version of the app, group chats allow users to generate invitation links that can be shared within Bluesky posts or across other platforms. Users can also control who is permitted to invite them into conversations.

Bluesky said the default setting will only allow invitations from accounts a user follows, although users can modify these preferences.

The company noted that support for media sharing is not yet available because additional moderation and safety measures are still being developed.

Bluesky’s Head of Product, Alex Benzer, said the company intends to focus more heavily on communities, creating smaller spaces where users can interact around shared interests.

The platform currently has approximately 44.8 million registered users, significantly smaller than X’s reported 600 million monthly active users.

According to New York Post, Dorsey began working on Bluesky as a side project in 2019 with funding from Twitter.

Many users of Bluesky say the app’s current beta version is similar to a pared-down copy of Twitter, Tech Crunch said. However, demand for the exclusive app has been growing, and the platform reportedly has about 20,000 users in its current form.

In the nearest future, the app developers hope to give users “algorithmic choice,” which would allow them to choose how content is fed onto their screens, instead of a one-fits-all algorithm controlled by the app developers.

TECHDIGEST – The Founder and former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Twitter, Jack Dorsey has created a new social platform called ‘Bluesky.’

This is coming barely one week after the United States’ richest billionaire, Elon Musk acquired Twitter with a whopping $44 billion.

However, while Musk is busy resetting the microblogging website including the speculation to sack half of the workers, Dorsey has concluded plans to launch a new site with over 30,000 people signing up for Bluesky within two days of the announcement.

According to Insider, Dorsey announced the launching of Bluesky and revealed that the new app will offer “a new foundation for social networking which gives creators independence from platforms, developers the freedom to build, and users a choice in their experience.”

Dorsey said in 2019 that Twitter was funding work into developing “an open and decentralized standard for social media.”
