The feature, spotted in WhatsApp beta for iOS version 26.2.10.73, enables group admins or members adding someone to a group to share up to 100 recent messages from the past 14 days. The move is aimed at helping new members quickly understand ongoing conversations, addressing a long-standing limitation where new participants could not view earlier messages.

The option is not enabled by default. Users adding a new member can decide whether to share chat history and can choose to share fewer than 100 messages if they wish. WhatsApp also provides multiple confirmation prompts before messages are shared to prevent accidental disclosure.

Shared messages appear in a different colour for clarity, and existing group members are notified through a system message indicating who shared the chat history. The messages are sourced from the device of the person adding the new member and remain protected by end-to-end encryption.

The feature is currently being rolled out gradually to select beta testers on iOS, with no official timeline yet for a wider release.

Another leak by tipster yeux1122, who has a solid track record on Apple-related leaks, claims the device will feature a 6.6-inch display. Meanwhile, tech blogger Sonny Dickson posted rendered images on July 30 showing a redesigned camera island and four colour options: light blue, white, black, and light gold.

Launch Timeline and Specs
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 Air in early September 2025, with launch dates speculated to fall on either Monday, September 8, or Wednesday, September 10 — in line with Apple’s usual release schedule.

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to adopt a new design that’s about two millimetres thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro. For context, the previous slimmest model, the iPhone 6, was 6.9 mm thick. If the camera bump is included, the iPhone 17 Air may reach up to 9.5 mm in total thickness.

Users of both types already received an in-app message in May, warning users of this new change. The notification informs users who are still using an Apple handset, giving them many times to upgrade to a handset that is still capable of running WhatsApp.

From Today, Monday, October 24, 2022, iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C will no longer be able to run WhatsApp because the world’s most popular chat app, no ??longer supports iOS 10 and iOS 11. “WhatsApp will stop supporting this iOS version after 24 Oct 2022. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update to get the latest iOS version,” reads a WhatsApp warning quoted from the Express website. Other devices that are also affected by this change include the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6S. But this trio of handsets still gets an upgrade from iOS 10 or iOS 11 to iOS 12.

WhatsApp minimum specifications are changing as newer iOS versions are required for new features. Several Apple fans who still use this old handset is likely already very small.

TECH DIGEST– In its most recent iOS 16 beta, tech giant Apple has brought back the battery % icon, which shows the real numerical amount of charge on the status bar.

The battery indicator reportedly made a comeback in iOS 16 beta 5, however, anyone using the beta still needs to enable it in the Settings menu. In the Settings menu’s “battery” section, just above the toggle for Low Power Mode, is the option to turn on battery percentage. The update is limited to the beta users for now.

The battery % indication first appeared during the iPhone 3GS period and went away with the introduction of the notch on the iPhone X around the time of iOS 11 in 2017.

The chances are good that the battery % icon will return in late September with the official release of iOS 16 even though Apple does not typically maintain every beta feature in a final release, especially if early feedback pushes back on anything.

According to a recent report, iOS 16 will allow users to edit an iMessage up to five times before the option is removed from the long-press menu.

Twitter is rolling out its closed caption toggle to all users on iOS and Android, which makes videos more accessible for deaf and hard-of-hearing users. Auto captions are available on the web, iOS, and Android in more than 30 languages, including English, Spanish, Japanese, Arabic, Thai, Chinese, Hindi, and more.

The CC button will appear in the top-right corner of a video that has captions available. You can then tap the button to turn captions on or off.

Twitter Space hosting becomes easier

In the week, Twitter also announced that it wants to make it easier for users to start a Space and is launching two experiments on iOS. The first experiment will allow iOS users to start a Space from the tweet composer.

To do so, you can tap on the Spaces icon in the tweet composer to start a new space. The second experiment will let iOS users start a space from the retweet menu. When you start a Space from the retweet menu, it will skip the usual setup and immediately go live. The tweet will then automatically be pinned at the top of the Space.

In addition, Twitter also announced that it’s testing a new way for hosts and speakers to share tweets in a Space via the retweet menu.

Long-form writing on Twitter

Aside from the above features, Twitter also last week said it has started testing “Notes,” a way to write and publish long-form content on the social media platform. A small group of writers in the United States, Canada, Ghana, and the United Kingdom now have access to Notes as part of the initial testing phase.

Twitter says Notes can be read on and off Twitter by people in most countries. Users who are part of the testing phase will get access to a new “Write” tab, which is where they can write and access all of their Notes. These users will also have a new “Notes” tab in their profile that holds their published work to make it easy for their followers to find their long-form content.
