The warning was issued on Monday by the NITDA Computer Emergency Readiness and Response Team (NITDA-CERRT) in an advisory on the vulnerability tracked as CVE-2026-53412.

NITDA-CERRT advised users to update affected Zoom applications immediately and implement additional security measures, including multi-factor authentication (MFA).

According to the agency, the vulnerability is caused by improper input validation and can be exploited remotely over a network without requiring authentication.

“The vulnerability is caused by improper input validation and could allow an unauthenticated attacker to remotely compromise Zoom user accounts over a network without requiring valid credentials,” NITDA-CERRT said.

The agency warned that successful exploitation could give attackers unauthorised access to confidential meetings, chat conversations, recordings and shared files.

“If exploited, attackers could take over Zoom user accounts without authorization, access confidential meetings, chat conversations, recordings and shared files,” the advisory said.

NITDA-CERRT said the vulnerability affects Zoom Workplace for Windows and the Zoom Workplace VDI Client for Windows.

The agency warned that compromised accounts could expose sensitive organisational, government and personal information. Attackers could also impersonate legitimate users to conduct phishing, fraud and social engineering attacks.

NITDA-CERRT advised users of Zoom Workplace for Windows to upgrade to version 7.0.0 or later.

Users of Zoom Workplace VDI Client for Windows were advised to upgrade to version 7.0.10, 6.6.15, 6.5.18 or later, depending on their supported release branch.

The agency also urged organisations to verify that all Zoom desktop clients are running supported versions and maintain effective patch management processes to ensure security updates are deployed promptly.

NITDA-CERRT recommended enabling MFA across Zoom accounts and restricting administrative privileges in accordance with the principle of least privilege.

Users were further advised to monitor account activity and authentication logs for suspicious login attempts or other unauthorised activity.

The agency also urged organisations to educate employees on how to identify and report suspicious account activity as part of broader efforts to reduce the risk of account compromise.

The improvement has coincided with a significant expansion in fibre connectivity, with Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) subscriptions tripling between the end of 2024 and June 2026.

The findings are contained in Ookla’s The Uneven Path to High-Speed Connectivity in West Africa report, which examines the impact of fibre deployment, regulation and infrastructure investment on broadband performance across the region.

The report assessed broadband developments in Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire, with Nigeria recording the strongest and most consistent improvement.

According to Ookla, Nigeria’s median fixed broadband download speed, excluding satellite connections, rose from 13.50 Mbps in 2023 to 34.47 Mbps in the first half of 2026.

“Nigeria’s median fixed broadband download speed (excluding satellite) increased 2.55x from 13.50 Mbps in 2023 to 34.47 Mbps in H1 2026, while its median upload speed rose by nearly the same proportion,” the report said.

The increase represents a 155 per cent rise in median download speed over the period.

Ookla said the growth has been sustained across successive quarters, rather than being driven by a single period of rapid improvement.

“Data from the last two years show that the median download speed consistently rose in every quarter, reflecting a progressive fiber build-out and steady adoption,” it said.

The improvement coincided with a threefold increase in FTTP subscribers between the end of 2024 and June 2026.

Nigeria also recorded improvements across different levels of broadband performance. The country’s P10 download speed, representing users at the lower end of the performance distribution, increased from 2.24 Mbps to 6.04 Mbps.

At the upper end, the P90 download speed increased from 74.37 Mbps to 90.04 Mbps during the same period.

Median upload speed also rose from about 11 Mbps in 2023 to 25.17 Mbps in the first half of 2026, representing an increase of nearly two-and-a-half times.

Meanwhile, median latency improved from 47.9 milliseconds in 2023 to 35.8 milliseconds in the first half of 2026, indicating faster network responsiveness.

The national capacity-building initiative is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s artificial intelligence talent pipeline and support the growth of the country’s AI innovation ecosystem.

According to a statement issued by the partners on Monday, the programme will provide developers, startups, students and early-career professionals with practical AI training, technical learning opportunities and startup support.

Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, said the initiative would equip young Nigerians with practical AI skills while creating pathways for innovation and the development of globally competitive startups.

“Through this partnership, we are equipping developers, entrepreneurs, and young professionals with practical AI skills while creating pathways for innovation and globally competitive startups,” Tijani said.

He said the initiative reflected the government’s commitment to developing Nigeria’s AI ecosystem through public-private partnerships and positioning the country as a leading force in Africa’s digital economy.

With the latest honour, Sidi-Ali completed an unprecedented hat-trick at the National Spokespersons Awards, becoming the first communications professional to progress from winning a sector-specific award twice consecutively to claiming the overall Spokesperson of the Year title.

The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in a federal court in Manhattan by investigative news outlet The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation, challenges Truth API, a premium feed launched by Trump Media & Technology Group that provides early access to posts from 10 high-profile Truth Social accounts, including Trump’s.

The service, which launched on August 1, reportedly charges subscribers up to $100,000 per month for early access to the content.

The legal action comes days after Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff urged the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to investigate whether the service could undermine the integrity of financial markets while benefiting Trump, Wall Street firms and wealthy investors.

The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment. While several White House officials are named as defendants, Trump Media & Technology Group is not a party to the lawsuit.

Trump has frequently used Truth Social to announce policy decisions and comment on issues such as tariffs and conflicts in the Middle East, with many of his posts having the potential to influence stock, commodity and financial markets.

The plaintiffs are asking the court to bar the White House from publishing official government announcements exclusively on Truth Social while the paid subscription service remains in operation.

Plaintiffs Allege Constitutional Violations

In the complaint, The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation described Truth API as “profoundly corrupt,” arguing that the arrangement allows the president to profit financially from access to official government communications.

They contend that the service violates the First Amendment by denying the public equal access to presidential announcements and creating a paywall around information of public importance.

The lawsuit also argues that many of Trump’s estimated 9,000 to 11,000 Truth Social posts and reposts since returning to office were never subsequently issued through official White House channels, making the platform the primary source of significant government announcements.

Responding to the lawsuit, a spokesperson for Trump Media said numerous media organisations and digital platforms already distribute Trump’s public statements, including through subscription-based services.

“Now, left-wing activists are trying to wrongfully weaponize the courts to censor him and harm shareholders,” the spokesperson said.

The company announced the capital raise alongside its second-quarter 2026 financial results on Wednesday.

The fundraising, priced on August 11, includes participation from Axian, one of Jumia’s largest shareholders, alongside other investors.

Under the agreement, investors will acquire 9.1 million American Depositary Shares (ADSs) at $5.52 per share, generating expected gross proceeds of $50 million. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of August, subject to customary conditions.

Jumia said the funds will support the next phase of its growth strategy, improve operational efficiency across its core African markets and strengthen its integrated marketplace and logistics network.

Chief Executive Officer Francis Dufay said the investment reinforces the company’s path toward profitability.

“The agreed investment anchored by the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group, and joined by current leading shareholders and selected new investors, will strengthen our balance sheet as we execute against that plan,” Dufay said.

“We continue to see ourselves firmly on track toward our target of achieving Adjusted EBITDA breakeven and positive cash flow in the fourth quarter of 2026, and full-year profitability on an Adjusted EBITDA basis and positive cash flow in 2027,” he added.

Jumia reported second-quarter revenue of $52 million, representing a 14% year-on-year increase, or 15% on a constant currency basis.

The growth was driven by stronger transaction volumes, although revenue expansion was partly moderated by a higher share of third-party marketplace sales, which generate commission income instead of recognising the full value of merchandise sold.

Commenting on the results, Dufay said the company’s operating model continued to demonstrate resilience despite challenging market conditions.

“Despite real headwinds—including supply disruptions in phones and electronics, rising fuel costs, and a demand slowdown in Ivory Coast tied to cocoa prices—GMV and physical goods orders, each adjusted for perimeter effects, grew 23% and 28%, respectively, year-over-year, while our Adjusted EBITDA loss narrowed by 36% to $8.7 million,” he said.

He added that gross profit increased by 28% year-on-year, reflecting continued improvements in marketplace monetisation, while the company maintained discipline by prioritising margins and profitability over aggressive growth in gross merchandise value.

The agency’s Computer Emergency Readiness and Response Team (NITDA-CERRT) issued the advisory on Wednesday, describing the flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-64638, as a pre-authentication cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the WordPress login page.

According to NITDA-CERRT, the vulnerability can be exploited without valid user credentials, making it particularly dangerous for website owners.

“A new pre-authentication cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability has been discovered on the WordPress login screen, which could potentially lead to PHP code execution,” the advisory stated.

The agency warned that successful exploitation could enable attackers to steal data, escalate privileges, install backdoors, inject malware or completely compromise affected systems.

“The vulnerability can be exploited without authentication or prior privileges. Immediate action is recommended to mitigate this threat,” NITDA-CERRT said.

It added that the pre-authentication nature of the flaw significantly increases the risk because attackers do not require authorised access before launching an attack.

To mitigate the threat, NITDA urged administrators to upgrade WordPress Core to version 7.0.3.

The agency also recommended deploying a Web Application Firewall (WAF), installing reputable WordPress security plugins, restricting access to sensitive administrative areas through strong authentication controls and maintaining regular website backups to minimise the impact of any successful attack.

The company disclosed on Thursday that it deactivated 462,000 suspected underage Instagram accounts and 294,000 Facebook accounts between December, when the law came into effect, and June.

The latest figures represent a significant increase from January, when Meta reported removing 331,000 Instagram accounts and 173,000 Facebook accounts.

The removals come as Australia’s internet regulator considers enforcement action against several social media platforms over concerns that they have not done enough to comply with the legislation.

Australia introduced the world’s first nationwide social media ban for users under 16 on December 10, citing concerns over the impact of social media on children’s mental and physical wellbeing.

Despite the crackdown, Australian government data and independent studies indicate that more than 80% of children under 16 remained on social media during the first three months of the ban.

The Australian government has since proposed stronger enforcement measures, including increasing the maximum penalty for non-compliance to A$99 million and expanding the regulator’s investigative powers.

Representatives from Meta, TikTok, Google-owned YouTube and Snapchat are scheduled to appear before a parliamentary inquiry on Friday to discuss their compliance efforts.

“Enforcement is ongoing, and these numbers will continue to grow,” Meta said in a statement.

The company added that it remains committed to complying with Australia’s regulations and providing age-appropriate online experiences for young users.

To identify underage users, Meta said it uses artificial intelligence to analyse user profiles for contextual signals, such as birthday celebrations, references to school grades and reports submitted by other users. The company has also disabled repeated account creation attempts after an underage account has been removed.
