TECH DIGEST- Apple announced it will increase the price of apps and in-app purchases in South America, the Euro Zone, and other regions that are suffering from inflation and currency changes.

Due to inflation and declining global currency values, Apple plans to raise the cost of apps, in-app purchases, and subscriptions for iPhone and iPad users. People in a number of nations, including France, Germany, Sweden, Egypt, Japan, Pakistan, and Vietnam, will be impacted by the change. Users of the US App Store don’t seem to be impacted.

TECHDIGEST – Apple Inc is set to unveil iPhone 14 at a yet-to-be announced date with mind blowing features.

Some of the new features in the iPhone 14 model range is likely to have the most recent chipset, which would be the A 16 or the A 16 Bionic. The iPhone 14 family is rumored to include support for 5G networks and may possibly boast an updated version of the 3D touch feature.

TECH DIGEST– In its most recent iOS 16 beta, tech giant Apple has brought back the battery % icon, which shows the real numerical amount of charge on the status bar.

The battery indicator reportedly made a comeback in iOS 16 beta 5, however, anyone using the beta still needs to enable it in the Settings menu. In the Settings menu’s “battery” section, just above the toggle for Low Power Mode, is the option to turn on battery percentage. The update is limited to the beta users for now.

The battery % indication first appeared during the iPhone 3GS period and went away with the introduction of the notch on the iPhone X around the time of iOS 11 in 2017.

The chances are good that the battery % icon will return in late September with the official release of iOS 16 even though Apple does not typically maintain every beta feature in a final release, especially if early feedback pushes back on anything.

According to a recent report, iOS 16 will allow users to edit an iMessage up to five times before the option is removed from the long-press menu.

TECHDIGEST – European lawmakers have agreed on a new rule that will force all smartphones, tablets, and headphones, including Apple’s iPhones to use USB-C for wired charging. The EU Parliament says this is to ensure that consumers will no longer need a different charging device and cable every time they purchase a new device and can use one charger for all small and medium-sized portable electronic devices.

All device makers selling to the European markets are expected to comply with this new rule by 2024. The new EU rule would not apply to products placed on the market before the date of the agreement.

The EU Parliament’s decision bought to close years of debate and overridden Apple’s complaints that such regulation would hamper innovation and harm consumers.

The European Parliament in a statement announcing the new rule, said: “These new obligations will lead to more re-use of chargers and will help consumers save up to €250 million a year on unnecessary charger purchases. Disposed of and unused chargers are estimated to represent about 11,000 tonnes of e-waste annually.”

European Parliament’s rapporteur, Alex Agius Saliba also commented saying: “Today we have made the common charger a reality in Europe! European consumers were frustrated long with multiple chargers piling up with every new device. Now they will be able to use a single charger for all their portable electronics.”

“We are proud that laptops, e-readers, earbuds, keyboards, computer mice, and portable navigation devices are also included in addition to smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones and headsets, handheld videogame consoles, and portable speakers. We have also added provisions on wireless charging being the next evolution in the charging technology and improved information and labeling for consumers,” he added.
