The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Canadian technology companies Goose FL and Fireflies AI to strengthen Nigeria’s artificial intelligence infrastructure and expand digital financial inclusion.
The agreements were signed in Toronto and witnessed by NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi as part of Nigeria’s strategy to deepen international technology partnerships and accelerate the development of its digital economy.
In a statement shared on its official X account on Tuesday, NITDA said the collaborations are designed to connect Nigeria’s technology ecosystem with global expertise while supporting local innovation and AI capacity development.
According to the agency, the partnerships are built around three strategic priorities: financial inclusion, indigenous AI infrastructure, and long-term digital economy growth.
Under the financial inclusion initiative, the partners will develop technology solutions aimed at expanding access to digital financial services and creating sustainable economic opportunities for underserved communities.
For AI infrastructure, NITDA said the agreements will support the establishment of locally developed AI infrastructure and services, enabling Nigeria to build, manage and benefit from AI technologies rather than relying primarily on foreign platforms.
The agency added that the partnerships will also promote technology transfer, innovation and digital skills development to drive economic growth.
NITDA said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of growing Nigeria into a $1 trillion economy by 2030 through innovation, digital technology and human capital development.
