GITEX 2020: Pantami Leads Nigeria’s Delegation, Speak on Africa at Global Tech Conference

TECH DIGEST –  Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Dr. Isa Ali Pantami leads major players in the Nigerian tech industry and digital economy to the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX 2020) taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirate.

With the opening ceremony, GITEX 2020 is the only face-to-face tech event to take part anywhere in the world this year in uniting international technology visionaries, industry innovators and global investors.

Dr Pantami who unveiled Nigeria’s pavilion is among major keynote speakers to discuss the latest development on technology at the event. He will address the Africa Investment Forum on” Blockchain – The end of unearned education.”

PRNigeria observes that GITEX Technology Week is hosting about 1,300 exhibitors, including over 300 start-ups from over 60 countries. There are pavilions from most innovative technological and promising nations, including United States, United Kingdom, France, Israel, Italy, Hong Kong, Japan, Belgium, Brazil, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Poland, Romania among others

The GITEX organisers described Pantami as ‘spearheading the trials and development of 5G in Africa.’

Having vast experience as a lecturer, researcher, technocrat and administrator in Information Technology, he was the immediate chief IT regulator in Nigeria before his appointment as the Minister of Communications that oversees several agencies and departments focusing on ICT in Nigeria.

The statement said: “He initiated the Nigerian national public key infrastructure (PKI) programme and set the national framework for cybersecurity against financial fraud and cybercrime as head of Nigeria’s IT agency. He helped to develop the ICT infrastructure in the North East of Nigeria in the aftermath of the destruction caused by Boko Haram insurgency; and has helped to trigger extensive government support for Nigeria’s growing technology startup ecosystem.”

Panel expected to discuss the presentation included Anna Juusela of Encourage.fi; Dr. Maria Papadaki of the British University in Dubai; Abdulqader Ali of Smartworld and Aly Madhavji of INSEAD

Nigeria’s participation is spearheaded by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). Other active participants from Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT), Galaxy Backbone, the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), National Identity Management Commission, National Automotive Design and Development Council, Petroleum Equalization Fund (PEF), IoTAfrica and Image Merchants Promotion Limited among others.

The annual event prides itself of uniting international technology visionaries, industry innovators and global investors.
