No NIN, No driver’s licence, NCC Reiterates

TECHDIGEST – The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reiterated government’s policy of allowing only citizens with their National Identity Numbers (NINs) eligible for acquiring driver’s licence and international passport among other government services.

Like many other government agencies, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had last year announced that from first quarter of 2021, it will require possession of NIN for vehicles registration and drivers licence.

The NIN is already a requirement for opening of bank accounts and application for international passport.

The commission in statement signed this week by Director of Public Affairs, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde, asked telecoms subscribers to link their NINs with their Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs) before the October 31, 2021 deadline set by the government.

“NCC has reminded and urged telecoms consumers to link their NINs with their SIMs before the expiration of the deadline of October 31, 2021 set by the Federal Government,” the NCC stated while noting that Nigerians without NIN risk being denied the opportunity of acquiring driving licences and passports.
