Samsung Empowers Users with Expanded Self-Repair Program

TECH DIGEST- Moving towards sustainability and user empowerment, Samsung has significantly expanded its self-repair program, initially launched in the US last year in collaboration with iFixit. Notably, this marks the first inclusion of foldable smartphones in the program, encompassing the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5. Additionally, a range of new devices, such as the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Tab S9 series, and Galaxy Book2 Pro, has been incorporated into the list.

Originally introduced in the US, the self-repair program has steadily expanded its global footprint, including South Korea, Brazil, Mexico, and several European countries earlier this year. Now, Samsung is extending the program to cover an additional 30 European countries, including Denmark, Greece, Hungary, and Portugal.

The program empowers users by enabling them to purchase genuine device parts directly from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and provides step-by-step instructions for replacing damaged components. The kit’s price varies based on the device, with, for instance, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra’s screen and battery replacement kit priced at $240.

Galaxy smartphone owners can now take charge of repairs, gaining access to genuine parts for replacing the screen, back cover, charging ports, speaker, SIM card tray, and side and volume buttons. Meanwhile, users of Galaxy Book series laptops can independently repair various components, including the front and back of the case, display, battery, touchpad, power button with fingerprint scanner, rubber feet, fan, and speakers.
