Social media platform X has officially launched a completely rebuilt version of its Android application, concluding a year-long redevelopment aimed at improving performance and bringing the Android experience closer to its iOS counterpart.
The new app, released on July 20, was rewritten from scratch and delivers faster performance, smoother scrolling, improved notifications and greater reliability, according to the company.
The launch follows X’s announcement last August that it would completely redesign its Android application after acknowledging that it had lagged behind the iOS version for years.
According to X’s Head of Product, Nikita Bier, the latest release is not an update to the existing app but an entirely new application built from the ground up.
Bier described the project as one of the largest engineering efforts in the company’s history, saying the redesigned app provides a stronger technical foundation that will enable X to develop and roll out new features more quickly.
The company had assembled what Bier previously described as an Android “dream team” to lead the redevelopment, with the goal of eliminating longstanding performance issues and creating a smoother experience for Android users.
The rebuilt application forms part of X’s broader strategy to improve its products and strengthen user engagement as the platform continues to introduce new features for creators and everyday users.
